How Scalp Micropigmentation can help scarring and Alopecia

There are several reasons why scars may occur on your scalp. Maybe you have undergone a hair transplant, an injury to your head, or experienced trauma to your skull, resulting in surgery. Scars on a person’s head can have equally as much damage to their self-esteem as hair loss, therefore wanting to conceal the scarring.
Two types of hair transplant procedures would ultimately result in unwanted scars. Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) will leave a strip across the back or side of the head and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) will leave small circular scars dotted across the head.

Scalp micropigmentation (also known as SMP or scalp tattoo) is the perfect treatment to camouflage the area. A natural pigment is applied onto the scar tissue and will be blended in with the shaved look. To effectively blend with the surrounding hair, the treatment area will extend beyond the scar tissue, potentially 1-2cm above and below the scarred area. The needle used is small enough to replicate a single hair follicle, enabling us to create a full head of thicker-looking hair.

Alopecia is an auto-immune condition resulting in partial or total hair loss and there are several different types. There are many reasons why alopecia may happen to you: genetics, trauma to the scalp, or self-infliction due to specific hairstyles or hair tugging. Unfortunately, there is no cure for alopecia; however, there is now a solution to help create a new hairline or conceal any bald patches that may have developed.

Scalp micropigmentation (also known as hair tattoo or SMP) is a form of cosmetic tattooing which could be ultimately life-changing for someone who suffers from alopecia. SMP will help replicate the appearance of a closely shaved head by implanting hundreds of microdots using a natural pigment into the scalp’s epidermis (top layer of the skin). SMP is a non-invasive treatment that will not prevent any potential hair growth in the future. As scalp micropigmentation is undetectable, no one will be able to tell you have had an SMP treatment.

We will be sure to discuss with you in detail what you want to achieve at your consultation and be able to answer any questions you may have. We want you to leave looking and feeling like the best version of you.

SMP may not be a cure for alopecia; however, it may help you heal from the trauma of losing your hair.
